  5.                      Some History and The Future of RNET
  6.                      -----------------------------------
  7.   RNET 1.00 was released in June 1989 to work with PCBoard 14.0 and/or ProDoor
  8.   3.1.  It was written to be a reliable and maintaince-free QWK based echomail
  9.   tosser and has forfilled its duty very well.  Since that time, RNET has come
  10.   to mean "Reliable Network Echomail Tosser" (or "Really Neat Echomail Tosser"
  11.   -- heh).

  13.   In those four years, RNET has gone through many changes with many new
  14.   features.  RNET is currently registered and in use in nearly all 50 states,
  15.   17 countries on six continents (anyone know of a PCBoard in Antarctica?),
  16.   and close to 100 different echo-networks.

  18.   RNET 2.00 is a complete rewrite and includes major features never before
  19.   available in a QWK based echo tosser.  New features include refer numbers,
  20.   file attaches, message routing, an easy-to-use custom programming language
  21.   for controlling messages, expanded and custom reports, conference traffic
  22.   analysis, visable/hidden seenby and origin lines, full support for PCBoard
  23.   15 extended subject, to, from, and other fields, and even programmable
  24.   packing for all of your conferences.  All this (and more) and it is even
  25.   faster than before!

  27.                                 Upgrade Policy
  28.                                 --------------
  29.   Since its first release, there has never been an upgrade fee.  Registered
  30.   users have always been able to get the latest registered and beta versions.
  31.   I do not believe in charging registered folks for minor (or even semi-major)
  32.   changes.  Even so, most 1.xx registered folks pre-registered 2.xx by sending
  33.   in more than than the minimum registration fee.

  35.   Folks who registered RNET 1.xx for $25 or more are automatically registered
  36.   for version 2.xx.  Simply call FTL and download the latest 2.xx registered
  37.   and beta versions as desired.  They will also receive a postcard to verify
  38.   that I still have their current address before I mail the 2.00 release
  39.   registered version disk.

  41.   Folks who registered RNET 1.xx since March 1st, 1993 are automatically
  42.   registered for version 2.xx.  Since these folks just registered and didn't
  43.   know anything about the upcoming 2.00 release, they are upgraded to 2.xx
  44.   status automatically.

  46.   Once registered for version 2.xx, you are entitled to all registered and
  47.   beta versions of RNET version 2.xx.  As with version 1.xx, this will likely
  48.   result in years of upgrades and enhancements without another penny on your
  49.   part (other than calling one of the distribution points to download).
